A recent trip to the Chicago Art Institute featured an amazing photographic history of life in Black Chicago and the early struggle for civil rights in the South Side. I culled together a pastiche of images that, for me, summed up the the hopeful resonance of prayer in a futile landscape of poverty and violence–the orphans of poverty perpetrated by the ignorance of racism.
